Some people have leaky gut syndrome which is actually very closely related to celiac disease. And leaky gut syndrome allows toxins, bacteria, and other infiltrates to move into the body from the gut because of large (microscopic) holes in the gut lining… thus causing lots of symptoms and creating liver problems, autoimmune disease, and more.
Symptoms – Include gas, bloating, abdominal pain, shortness of breathe, anxiety, stress, muscle cramps, muscles pain, lots of mood swings, migraines, heartburn, insomnia, constipation, gum disease, fungal infections, food allergies, diarrhea, brain fog, and more.
Here are some herbs and recommendations that can help with leaky gut syndrome.
Stop Eating Wheat – First of all stop all wheat consumption, plus barley and spelt that are related to wheat and cause the same problems.
Chlorella – Take 3,000 mgs of Chlorella a day, this wonderful algae contains over 60 different nutrients that are very important for your body. And if you have leaky gut syndrome you need all the nutrients you can get.
Stop Eating Certain Foods – Cut out the following from your life: GMO foods, processed foods, fast foods, foods with additives in them such as artificial colors, artificial sweeteners, no alcohol, no highly spiced food, and stay away from salt. And if you can’t pronounce something in your food – don’t eat it!
No Animal Protein – Remove all animal protein from your diet, no meat, no chicken, no fish, no seafood, no cheese, no soda, no dairy products, no eggs, no canned foods, and no added oils.
Eat – Eat whole fresh organic fruits and veggies plus some organic grains. Especially greens like kale, cabbage, swiss chard, and other green veggies… they have lots of fiber and alkalize the body thus helping with inflammation. You only need 5 or 6% protein and that’s exactly what you get from fresh fruits and veggies.
Eat Natural Fats – Eat avocados, flax seeds, nuts, seeds, and other whole foods that contain healing oils that soothe the GI tract.
Mind/Body – We know that the mind body is powerful so it’s important to start doing meditation.
Even people like Dr. Dean Ornish are saying that when we meditate… we can change the genes we have being expressed. The more we meditate the more good genes are expressed… and the more bad genes are shut off at the same time. Meditate for at least 30 minutes in the morning, and 30 minutes in the evening… it can change everything.
Get Rid of Offenders – If we get rid of all the offending agents in our system… the gut lining can start to heal. But if we keep indulging in foods and other things that cause inflammation we will keep this cycle of inflammation going. The body heals naturally, and that’s the way the body has worked since the dawn of man… so take advantage of this wonderful machine we call the body and allow it to heal naturally.
Probiotics – It’s important to get probiotic bacteria into the gut, take probiotic bacteria capsules to recultivate good bacteria in the gut. The more good bacteria we have the more immune boosting bacteria we have… thus we stay healthy and feel good. Good gut bacteria = good health. And stay away from antibiotics and alcohol that will kill bacteria in the gut.
Herbs – Mashmallow root and slipper elm do a great job of soothing the GI tract and let it heal. Also aloe vera does a great job of healing the GI tract. Garlic is very important for supporting the immune system and creating a healthy gut.
Fiber - Flax and Chia seeds are a very important source of omega 3 oils that help with inflammation. And the fiber creates a good environment for probiotic bacteria to grow.
Alkalize - Alkalizing the body with lots of green veggie juice – juice kale, swiss chard, cucumbers, spinach, broccoli, and any other greens you can think of. Green juice will soothe the GI tract of inflammation. Drink one large glass of green juice in the morning and in the afternoon.
Boswellia – Boswellia is great for soothing away inflammation (Take according to directions on the package), boswellia is one of the most powerful anti-inflammatory agents around and will do the body good.
Turmeric – Turmeric is a poweful anti-inflammatory agent that can heal the GI tract.
Cleans Heavy Metals – If you have lots of mercury fillings in your mouth, consider having them replaced with other types of none toxic fillings, heavy metals cause lots of GI problems. Also chlorella, garlic, and cilantro do a good job of cleansing away heavy metals.
Other Herbs – Licorice root is a good anti-inflammatory that can be used for short periods of time. Plus peppermint tea is great for the liver, and chamomile tea is very soothing for the whole body.
Fennel and anise seed tea is great for gas.. plus ginger is great for the GI tract. Other herbs I recommend are devils claw, wild yam, amla berry, sarsaparilla, feverfew, goldenseal, echinacea, willow bark, and ashwagandha for stress.
Low Coffee Enema – A cold coffee enema is great for detoxing the liver… and cleans the gallbladder at the same time – wonderful!
Water – Drink lots of water, we are mostly water… ( Our body is 70% water) and without lots of fresh cool water our body does not function well. Drink lots of reverse osmosis water which is the best water around, reverse osmosis units can be found at most hardware stores. And reverse osmosis water is exactly what most Nephrologist’s or Kidney doctors recommend for their patients.
Yoga – Yoga is very important, yoga will soothe the GI tract and bring balance back to the mind body… join a yoga class and feel good again. Sometimes we work from the body to the mind and other times we work from the mind to the body, yoga incorporates both. If we limber the mind it also limbers the body… and the other way around, and yoga is very important for deal with stress.
Stress – Stress causes lots of issues in the body and learning to meditate and practicing yoga will keep stress in check… so you can feel great and heal the mind/body. Also learning to accept what we have going on is important… we can’t change life if we don’t accept what we have going on.
Compassion – Have compassion, life is complicated, cut yourself some slack and be gentle with yourself because life changes all the time.
Exercise - Walk 5 miles a day, that’s what they do in Europe do, or swim 5 miles a day, very simple. Or you can get into weight training, riding a bike, doing aerobics whatever makes you happy… exercise is important for boosting your immune system.
Sleep – Get up at 6AM and go to bed by 10PM… this is the normal cycle of the circadian rhythms that are important for good health. Every cell in the body knows when we should be sleeping!
Abnormal sleep patterns create lots of inflammation, stress, and anxiety in the whole body.
