“How Can I Do Good— When Everyone Else is Not”

Lots of people are doing things that are not helpful… but how do we keep moving forward in spite of all this? A person on Facebook ask this question and here is what I recommend.

Change Your Perception

You are looking around and you see people doing things that make you feel upset. That’s a normal reaction until you see it for what it is… just a process that’s taking place… and it’s neither good or bad. It’s our mind that takes everything and makes it into a perception (a non-reality) of the reality of the situation. We place a judgment upon the whole thing. Acceptance goes a long way towards healing the mind/body. If we keep fighting reality then we can never have peace. That being said, it doesn’t mean we have to be part of what other people are doing… not at all. It just means we watch from the side lines and not allow our mind to become embroiled in all the turmoil.

Learn Meditation 

This is where learning meditation comes in. The more a person meditates the less the outer world and all its turmoil bothers them. It’s kind of like watching a movie and knowing terrible things about to happen. But you know that the movie is just a movie and it doesn’t bother you. In fact, studies done with Zen meditation masters find that their minds don’t work like ours. They can see photographs of terrible car accidents and on their EEG there is nothing happening… they are not upset at all. But they ask questions and are interested, have compassion, but that part of their brain that becomes filled with anxiety has been turned off.

Dial Down the Amygdala of Your Brain 

And what we are seeing in the world is that part of our brain which turns on emotional anxiety called the “Amygdala” has become overly excited to the point that it never turns off. It’s in hyper mode all the time, thus we are always full of anxiety, fear, and dread. But the practice of meditation dials down the Amygdala… thus one can find inner peace no matter what other people are doing.

Thus with meditation, it’s easy to do what you want to do… when others are being bad. You just keep doing what you know is right in your heart and allow the world to be what it is. And meditation helps people stay focused… thus they do what they really want to do, instead of being side tracked by what people are doing.

So just like all the Zen Masters, Christian Monks, and other spiritual people who practice meditation daily… they can do good things in the world and not allow anything to bother them.

Thus the short answer is – MEDITATE and Feel Great

“Hearty Caribbean Plantain Pie”

“Low Glycemic Index, Great for Colon Health, Vitamins and Minerals” 

Here is a Caribbean favorite of mine that’s super tasty and filling. And for sure you won’t walk away feeling hungry with this recipe. And this dish is very easy to make and it’s full of the great healing power of plantains and garbanzo beans. And this recipe is spicy… but not too spicy. Plus along with a green salad, this is a full spectrum meal, another Whole-Foods Plant-Based Recipe.

Hearty Caribbean Plantain Pie

Ingredients:

6 – Large Organic Ripe Plantains – Split Lengthwise

32 – Oz of Organic Garbanzo Beans

4 – Cups of Organic Carrots – Sliced and Cooked

1 1/2 – Cups of Organic Oatmeal Flour

16 – Oz of Organic Mexican Salsa – Either Mild, Medium, or Hot — pick how spicy you want your pie.

2 – Cups of Filtered Water – or a little more depending upon your bowl

Building the Pie 

Take 9 inch round pyrex bowl that is 4 inches deep and add a layer of plantains at the bottom of the bowl. Then add the garbanzo beans, then a layer of carrots, then add another layer of plantains on top.

To Make the Sauce

Take the oatmeal flour and add the salsa and water and blend in a blender… and pour over the pie. Let the sauce sink in all over… and give it a helping hand with a knife letting it sink down into all areas of the pie.

Next, place in a 350-degree oven for 60 minutes or until the top starts to really get nice and brown. And all the extra liquid in the bowl has pretty much evaporated and you have a nice consistency to the pie.

Remove from the oven and let cool, this takes a few minutes.

Slice and serve with a green salad.

Serves 12 people or 6 big hungry guys

Vitamins – Plantains contain Vitamins A, C, and B – all important antioxidants that help to slow the aging process, prevent DNA damage, and provide a boost for your metabolism and give you energy. Also Vitamin K for clotting and E for cardiovascular health.

Minerals – Plantains are a good source of magnesium for cardiovascular health and strong bones, phosphorus for strong bones, and iron for anemia, zinc for immunity, and calcium for enzyme activity and osteoporosis.

Weight Loss – Boiled Plantains also work well for weight loss because they are full of “Resistant Starch” that does not break down in your GI tract and helps lower cholesterol and blood sugar too. And cooked Plantains are low in carbs and calories, high in water, and also help your body absorb more calcium.

Low Glycemic Index – Boiled Plantains have a low glycemic index (Glycemic index of 38) making them great for diabetics.

Athletes and Children – Some experts highly recommend Plantains as a nutritious food with lots of energy for children and athletes… and people on the go that need lots of sustained energy.

Colon Health – Short chain fatty acids (Resistant Starch) important for colon health and helps in the treatment of colitis, IBS, and other colon diseases. “How to Find a Perfect Match for a Relationship”

There are lots of people in the world who are sitting at home feeling lonely and they are waiting for mister or misses right to come along. But how do we find mister or misses right? Read More…

I get asked that question all the time. Lots of people expect that a perfect man or woman is going to come knocking on their door and they will find true happiness. Sorry to burst their bubble… but most of the time it does not work that way. To find the right person we have to do a lot of looking. People are not going to come to us… we have to go to them.

It’s kind of like going to a department store and looking at all the clothes on the clearance rack. Some shirts are too small, some are too big, some are not our style, some too colorful, some are too drab, and more. So it takes digging through a lot of shirts to find that perfect shirt that looks good and feels right. And the same thing goes for relationships, we have to do a lot of digging to find mister or misses right.

And finding the right person now does not mean it will be forever. Things change and so do we… but it will be good right now and we need to have faith. But we can hope that everything works out for the best and pray to God that we find the right person for the rest of our life. This also means we have to get out of the house and be around other people. Joining clubs, joining associations, finding groups of people who enjoy the same hobbies. And anything else one can think of to get yourself out of the house and around people… new people!

Also, dating is not the way it used to be. In the past, lots of people went to parties, to bars, and met at restaurants and other places. But that is not common in this day and age. In fact, I met my wife on-line… dating on-line has become one of the best ways to meet new people. And very soon my wife and I will celebrate our 19th year together. And I’m sure we will be together for the rest of our lives… we make a great couple. And I know lots of other couples who have long term relationships that met on-line. My wife and I met on one of those dating services like E-Harmony, Match, and many others.

And one of the things that’s really important when a person is dating on-line is to be truly upfront and honest about who you are, and what you are all about, what you like, and what you don’t like. And you have to be very picky about who you want in your life. This is also vital… because you are looking for a person to be with for the rest of your life.

After meet on-line for a while and chatting, and then talk on the phone, and eventually meeting in person for coffee or dinner… you find out if there is chemistry between you or not. It might not work at all the first 10 to 20 times dates or more, but eventually, you will find someone you really love. Like I said, you have to go through a lot of apples to find that perfect crisp, sweet, and luscious aromatic apple that you love.

And a person has to remember that everything happens for a reason. We go through some relationships to grow and become better people… and to awaken from our slumber and see the world from a new point of view.

Also, it’s important that if no one wants to go on a date with you… perhaps you have some work to do. Because you have some issues that need to be worked on. This is important because you might think you are a good catch… but the reality of the situation might be totally different. We all have stuff that needs to be work on and made better… and thus making ourselves a better person for a relationship. So doing some counseling, meditation, and talking with friends who will be brutally honest with us is very important. Then we can make changes and become a better person. Then we will attract mister or misses right into our life.

But like anything else, relationships take work, every single day takes time and effort. And if a person is not willing to put in the time and effort to work on a relationship… then don’t even try. Relationships are a team effort, and both sides need to put in the effort to make the relationship work. And I promise you one thing for sure, there will be hard times, bad times, good times, and amazing times, but you will get through all of it together… if you decide to do so.

So stop being sad… get up and get going… time is wasting!

“We are Human Beings… Not Human Doings”

In all the spiritual texts God did his work and then took a day off. And He looked back at what He had accomplished and was happy. Yet we have people doing more and more and they are not happy. Read More…

Not long ago I met a high powered trainer. He worked super hard, in fact, he worked almost 24/7 and he was running from one state to another. And he didn’t have any time to himself… let along doing a consultation with me. In fact, he missed 2 appointments because he was so busy. He has adrenal fatigue and he works himself to the bone… and he is not happy. Yet all that money keeps coming in and he is not willing to let it go… even if he ends up having a stress induced heart attack. For some people there is nothing you can do for them until the right learning lesson comes along and they awaken. All we can do is pray.

But one of my best friends makes a modest living and they are happy. And my friend even told me “Paul I need my down time, my time to contemplate, my time to relax, and my time to just be.” He’s made having down time a priority in his life… and he’s extremely happy.

Happiness does not come about because of what we do. Oh, of course we have to like what we do for a living… that’s very important. And if we sit around all the time doing nothing that’s not good either because we eventually become depressed. We need balance in our lives to be happy. Balance is the key to a very successful and fulfilling life.

Multiple studies done at Cornell, San Francisco State University, and many other universities show that we need a certain amount of material good to be happy. But over the long run it’s our loving experiences that we cherish and remember for the rest of our lives. Being with family, being outdoors in nature, and having the time to help the neighbor who needs a helping hand and more.

Balance is the key to a happy, enjoyable life. But lots of people have lost all sense of balance. And this creates a domino effect that starts a downward spiral. So take the time to smell the roses, take the time to get out in nature, take the time to be with family, and take the time to go for a ride in the country and enjoy a simple picnic. For those are the things that we remember when we pass over to the other side of the veil.
