Chanting is another way of using a mantra to meditate. You might use the same words used in silent mantra meditation to chant out loud. Or you could find songs to chant such as old Chinese chants, or Sanskrit Indian chants, or Native American chants. Whatever it is, fully emerge yourself in the words, concentrating on letting the words take over your mind. If a thought does enter your mind, say to yourself silently “I see that, but not right now,” and go back to concentrating on the chant. Make up some word or use words that have great meaning to you and chant them.
