Chives contain lots of antioxidants in the from of thio-sulfinates such as diallyl trisulfide that also help to lower LDL or bad cholesterol, increase HDL or good cholesterol, and they also contain Allicin which is a great dilator of blood vessels and helps increase blood flow in the body and help with vascular diseases. Thus Chives can help with cardiovascular disease, strokes, and even cancer.

Chives increase the release of nitric oxide in the vessels and thus helps make sure blood flows freely without clotting causing heart attacks and high blood pressure.

Chives also contains lots of vitamins such as vitamins A, C, E, and K. Vitamin A is a powerful antioxidant helping to prevent disease. It also contains Vitamin K that is important for strong bones and keeping away osteoporosis, and it also keep blood flowing along correctly. And there are some studies showing that Vitamin K can prevent nervous system damage and might also help with Alzheimer’s disease.

Chives contain a good amount of Vitamin C which is one of the best antioxidants around thus helping to stave off disease. And Chives have lots of B vitamins… thus helping to create great vitality and promote DNA and cellular health. And Vitamin E which is important for a host of health benefits including sexual organ health. Plus Chives are cholesterol free, have almost no fat, some protein and great fiber too. Chives also rid the body of excess yeast, bacteria, and fungus thus helping to sooth the GI tract… and can also kill salmonella and other powerful pathogens that cause disease. And Chives have been used for preserving food too, and in China Chives are used in medications for healing digestive upset and increasing blood flow.

Plus Chives contain Iron and copper that are important for preventing anemia, zinc which works with antioxidants to help prevent colds and flues and at the same time boost enzyme production, potassium for cardiovascular health and water regulation… also manganeses for muscle health and clotting. Chives also help prevent cancer by promoting the production of glutathione thus working to detox the body and destroy cancer cells.

And Chives are great antibiotic, anti-fungal, and antiviral abilities that important for natural health and vitality.

There are many different types of chives including Chinese Chives, Garlic Chives, and Thai Leeks and more… all of which have great healing abilities.

I love putting Chinese Chives in soups and they also work well in stews, omelets, casseroles, and even in stir fries.
