Cabbage has many great health benefits that are amazing… lets take a look at this simple yet powerful veggie that will do your body good.

Kaempferol – Cabbage contains lots of Kaempferol which is amazing stuff considering it helps to prevent inflammation and thus arthritis and allergies, it’s a powerful antioxidant that helps to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer.

Antimicrobial – Kaempferol is a powerful antibacterial agent that kills bacteria.

Sulforaphane – Cabbage is one of the sulphur containing veggies that protect against cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. And it also helps to fight off DNA damage and free radicals thus helping to keep you disease free.

Vitamin C – Most people don’t think of Cabbage as having lots of Vitamin C  but it does. This powerful antioxidant helps to prevent disease, colds, flues, creates good looking skin, boosts your immune system and more. One cup of cabbage gives you more than your full dose of Vitamin C.

Weight Loss – Just about every diet on the planet allows cabbage because one cup of cabbage contains less than 45 calories, and its fat free and has very little carbs. Just what you need when you want to lose weight.

Vitamin K – Vitamin K is important for preventing heart attacks, strokes, osteoporosis, and for preventing bone fractures.

Lower Cholesterol – Cabbage contains glucosinolates which binds with bile acids to make it possible to lower LDL or Bad cholesterol. And steaming Cabbage does the best job of keeping these glucosinolates powerful and active to lower your cholesterol… and of course raw.

Cancer – Glucosinolates also changes into isothiocyanate which is a powerful anticancer compound that works well for preventing prostate, bladder, colon, and breast cancer.

Contains – Cabbage contains lots of A and E vitamins for sexual health… and great antioxidants for your skin and immune system. Also lots of B Vitamins for vitality and mood support… plus phosphorus for strong bones, iron and copper for anemia, zinc for boosting your immune system, selenium for preventing heart disease and cancer, calcium for strong bones, potassium for cardiac health and water regulation, magnesium for lowering blood pressure, and manganese for bone and muscle health, and a slight amount of tryptophan for a good nights rest.

Fiber – Cabbage has lots of fiber that’s important for providing nutrients for probiotics and boosting your immune system. Fiber also keeps you regular, and works to prevent IBS and other chronic digestive diseases.

Can Be Gas Free – If you cook Cabbage with fennel, dill, cilantro, coriander or cloves… any one of these spices will prevent the formation of gas when you eat Cabbage.

Types – There are many different types of cabbage from Bok Choy, Napa, Red Cabbage, Chinese Cabbage, Savoy… and many other types of great tasting Cabbage.

Uses – You can used Cabbage in stews, soups, casseroles, salads, coleslaw, sauerkraut, kimchi, cabbage rolls, and hundreds of other great tasting recipes.

Best Way to Cook – Use a little low sodium veggie broth in a pan… and let get very hot and saute very fast and then serve with low salt/low fat dressing – GREAT! But coleslaw is one of my favorite things… and I love it any time of the year.
