Diarrhea can catch up with anyone in emergency situations.
And there are a lot of causes of Diarrhea including: bacterial infections, parasites, viral infections, reactions to food and medications, and many more causes. But if you are in an emergency situation here are some things you can do to make life better.
*Remember Diarrhea can be a life threading situation, if a child or even an adult loses too much in the way of fluids they can die.
Wash Hands Often – One of the main reasons people come down with diarrhea in emergency situation is not washing their hands often enough. You can use one of those alcohol gels if you don’t have much water, or use a splash of alcohol, or the simplest is plain old soap and water… it will do the trick. And wash your hands for a long time, here is a little trick, sing happy birthday in your head twice while washing your hands… that will give you enough time to wash your hands very clean.
Sanitation – Also if your emergency situation means that the sewers system is not working… then you may need to dig a simple septic system (outhouse) that will take care of your needs for awhile. Dig down as deep as you can, 6 feet or more and 1 1/2 in diameter is great. You can buy tablets of microbes that break down sewage in septic systems at your local home improvement center. Make sure to cover this emergency system to keep out insects and rodents… and keep the area as sanitary as possible. Otherwise what will you do with your human waste? Think about this, it’s important! Also on youtube there are some great videos on making outhouses, and about making bucket toilets.
Hydration – Keep yourself hydrated, with water, juice, anything you can keep down. At first if the fluids just run through that is OK… just keep drinking fluids. Also electrolytes are important (potassium and sodium) are important and you can get those naturally from moringa and chlorella which have just about every kind of nutrient you need. Make a soothing hot moringa tea… it will help in great ways.
Stay Away From – Stay away from high fiber foods, greasy foods, and sugary sweet foods, all of these will cause Diarrhea to get worse.
Turmeric – Turmeric is a great antibacterial herb that will help get rid of invading microbes that could be causing the Diarrhea. Turmeric usually comes in 600 mg capsules and most people recommend taking 3 to 6 capsules twice a day. Or turmeric is a cooking herb and if you have turmeric as a ground spice in your spice rack… you can take a 1/2 teaspoon with a little juice to make it go down easy.
Other Herbs – Also there are other herbs that are good antibacterial agents such as andrographis, goldenseal, oregon grape, paduco bark, and many more that will help.
Rice Water – I remember being in Mexico and coming down with diarrhoea and the chef at the hotel cooked me up some simple white rice water. It was soothing and did the trick of stopping the diarrhea and made me fill better. Just boil a cup of white rice with 6 cups of water until the water becomes nice a milky white. Remove the rice and let the liquid cool… then drink as much of the liquid as you want to soothe your GI tract. This remedy really works well. And in emergency situations white rice is one of the staples you’ll usually have on hand.
Tea – Tea is one of the most soothing things for Diarrhea, you can use black tea, green tea, fennel and anise tea which are good for gas and GI upsets. Some feel that tea with caffeine can upset the GI tract but lots of people find black tea soothing and it does have a relaxing agent (L-Theanine) which helps with stress, so YOU will have to decide about having tea or not. I drink black tea when I have Diarrhea and it works well for me.
Slowly Add These Foods – As you start to feel better slowly add some cooked None GMO rice, applesauce, bananas, boiled potatoes, cooked carrots, None GMO crackers… and some None GMO bread.
Probiotics – It’s important to get a person on some sort of probiotic agent as soon as possible, perhaps yogurt, or any other food that contains good bacteria so that the GI tract can heal. You can also buy probiotic capsules in drugstores that work well.
Drink Purified Water – In emergency situations it’s absolutely important to drink purified water because water can carry bacteria and parasites that cause disease and Diarrhea.
Not Responding – If the diarrhea is not responding or gets worse… then go to the doctor as soon as possible.
