Lots of people run around doing lots of things but are not happy. There does not seem to be any ritualised way of living… a way of being that brings inner happiness.
Here are a few things that can help.
Set Bedtime and Wakeup Time – It has been found that having a set bed time and a set time for getting up in the morning creates health. Our mind/body becomes accustomed to going to bed at a certain time and because of that needs to rest in order to ready for the next day.
People who stay up all hours of the night are always lacking energy and need coffee to get them through the next hour.
But those who go to be at 10PM and get up at 6AM according to the natural circadian rhythms and according to Ayurvedic Medicine are assured a connection to the biosphere of life and better health.
Sunlight – Also getting out into natural sunlight daily is very important. Lots of us are sitting in offices all day long with artificial light and this plays havoc with our immune and hormonal system. Getting out in the sun for at least 15 to 30 minutes or longer every day makes all the difference in our mood and our thinking. Some people even come down with seasonal affective disorder caused by not being out in the sun.
Meditate – Meditation sets the mood for the day, just sitting down and being at peace for 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes around 5PM changes life in amazing ways. Stress goes down, cortisol levels go down, cognitive abilities go up, heart coherence goes up, creativity goes up, enjoyment of life goes up, heart disease goes down, strokes go down, the ability to get along with others goes up, blood pressure goes down, and the general happiness goes way up!
Eating at Set Times – And the body responds well to set times to eat breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner. Eating every 2 hours is important providing important nutrients to the body and the mind so we have energy and feel vital at all times.
Eating breakfast at 8AM, a snack at 10AM, lunch at 12 noon, snack 3PM, and eating an early dinner at 5 or 6PM. That way the body has time to digest our food before going to bed… this also helps to prevent diabetes.
Nature – Nature is an important part of who we are. For centuries we have tried to escape nature, but now we find that if we are out in nature on a regular basis we feel better and that translates into better health. Just listening to a trickling stream or crashing waves creates calm and that allows us to feel at peace in a deep way. All important for a stress free way of living… and for staying healthy.
Friends – Getting out with friends is important because it lifts our mood and makes us laugh, letting go of all the day in and day out things that happen… thus we are healthier and happier.
