“18 Health Benefits of American Ground Nuts”

The American Ground Nut or Apios Americana is a great tasting nut that grows like wild potatoes in the Eastern US and also up into Canada and it’s very common in Wisconsin, Florida, and Maine.

It has many great health benefits and most of all it’s a free food that can be collected year long. It’s a vine that grows aggressively and twists it’s way around just about anything that will support it, and it loves moist soil and likes growing along creek sides and streams.

Also it’s a tuber like other ground nuts like peanuts and it has a nice nutty flavour similar to potatoes and peanuts… and was called “Indian Potatoes” by the Native Americans and are known to be over 9,000 years old.

In Japan these little potatoes also called Hodoimo and it’s also grown in South Korea, and recently these little potatoes have become talked about for healing radiation sickness.

These nuts were also brought to Europe to offset the potato blight, but it takes 2 years for American Ground Nuts to produce… which prevented anyone from commercially growing them in Europe.
