History – Cilantro is even mentioned in the bible, and it’s use goes back at least 5,000 years. The Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Russians, Middle East, Indian, and Latin Americans have been using cilantro for hundreds of years.

Names – Cilantro has many names including Coriandrum sativum, Chinese parsley, and a few more names. Plus the seeds of this plant is what we call coriander and it’s used as a spice especially in India.

Grows – Cilantro grows all over the world in tropical climates and also in moderate climates. Cilantro is amazingly versatile in it’s ability to grow just about anywhere, and it will even grow in windows in pots, on patios in pots… so you have great tasting cilantro all year long.

Spice – Cilantro is used as a spice world wide and if you google “Cilantro Recipes” you will find lots of amazing culinary dishes. Cilantro is used in soups, stews, beans, omelets, cheese, tacos, wraps, casseroles, chicken, fish, cilantro pesto, just about any dish you can think of.

Heavy Metals – Cilantro helps to remove lead and other heavy metals from the body. But it’s a slow process, and it would take eating lots of cilantro to remove a lot of toxic heavy metals… but it does work.

Anti-bacterial and Anti-fungal – Cilantro is a powerful antibacterial agent that helps to kill Salmonella and other bacterial infections. In fact cilantro and cilantro oil helps to keep food from rapidly spoiling. Cilantro contains many great oils that help with microbes and fungi such as cineole, borneol, terpineol, and many more powerful oils.

A compound found in cilantro called “dodecenal” was found to be more powerful than the antibiotic gentamicin in killing Salmonella in laboratory studies. And a study in Brazil found that cilantro oil might be a good agent for cleansing away fungi from the body. And the University of California at Berkley said “We were surprised that dodecenal was such a potent antibiotic.”

Antioxidants – Cilantro contains lots of powerful antioxidants that help to boost our immune system and thus prevent disease. And antioxidants also help to prevent DNA damage and promote DNA repair thus slowing the aging process.

Cilantro contains beta-carotene and beta-cryptoxanthin, quercetin, rhamnetin, epigenin, kaempferol, and lutein and zeaxnthin for healthy eyes and to prevent macular degeneration. Cilantro juice contains twice as much antioxidants as broccoli – another reason to always have some cilantro on hand.

Weight Loss Food – Cilantro contains very little carbs, no fats, no cholesterol, and hardly any protein – and 1/4 cup of cilantro only contains about 1 calorie… great weight loss food.

Vitamins – Cilantro contains Vitamin C which is a powerful antioxidant for cardiovascular health, strokes, and cancer. Also Vitamin A for healthy mucus membranes and eye health… plus Vitamin K for proper clotting and for preventing osteoporosis. And wonderful B Vitamins for proper fetal health, good mood, and vitality… plus Vitamin E for sexual and cardiovascular health.

Trace Minerals – Cilantro also contains iron and copper for anemia, calcium and phosphorus for strong bones, potassium for heart health and water regulation, selenium and zine for immune support, magnesium for diabetes and depression, and manganese for enzyme production.

GI Tract – Cilantro is great for calming down an upset stomach, helping with GI spasms, and getting rid of gas… and it’s great for diarrhea.

Bad Breath – Cilantro is also great to chew on if you have bad breath because it kills many of the bacteria that cause bad breath… plus it can heal oral sores and ulcers.

Omega Oils – Cilantro contains Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids that help with cardiovascular disease and strokes… and help with inflammation.

Diabetes – Cilantro also helps to lower blood sugar, and cilantro juice can have a dramatic effect on lowering blood sugar… because it helps the body produce insulin.

Acne – Take cilantro juice and mix it with turmeric powder and place it on pimples… and they will disappear.

Lowers Cholesterol – Studies show that cilantro lowers bad or LDL cholesterol and at the same time increase good or HDL cholesterol.

Diuretic – Cilantro is a good diuretic thus helping to reduce water weight and bloating… and detox the body at the same time.

Stress – Cilantro has a calming effect that helps with stress and also helps with insomnia.

Skin Disease – Cilantro contains citronelol which is a powerful antiseptic compound that helps with dry skin, psoriasis, eczema and other skin problems. Cilantro juice helps with oily skin… and it can also help lighten up dark colored lips.

Healthy Hair – People use cilantro paste on their scalp for lustrous healthy hair and scalp and to prevent hair loss. Apply cilantro paste one hour before shampooing and then wash off… and keep using the paste for at least 3 weeks.

Anti-Inflammatory – Cilantro contains many compounds that also help with redness, pain, and swelling associated with inflammation and may help with arthritis and other inflammatory conditions.

Deodorant – Eating cilantro is a very good natural body deodorant that kills bacteria that form around your feet, arm pits, and other areas of your body.
