“Many people have pain at night that keeps them awake, and here’s a simple process that works to stop pain so you can rest.”
If you have pain relax, close your eyes, and breathe deep 24 times, and center your mind on your breathing… thus removing your thoughts from your pain.
Many time pain will disappear in the first 24 breaths, but if it persists take another 24 breaths that are even deeper… and soon the pain will flow away.
If the pain persists repeat the process until relaxed and sleeping deeply.
Many times pain is create by “Tension Syndrome Myositis” which entails muscles and tendons being so tight that they compress nerves and vessels and don’t allow blood to flow. This creates pain because toxic waste builds up in tissues and nerves are compressed.
Dr. Herbert Benson of the Institute of Mind/Body Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital had a next door neighbor who had kidney cancer and was in terrible pain. And one night her husband ran to his door and pleaded with Dr. Benson to come over and help his wife who was screaming in pain.
Dr. Benson was not prepared, he didn’t have any pain medication with him… but he knew he had to do something. Dr. Benson was studying the medical effects of meditation and decided to talk her through her pain. By having her concentrate on her breathing thus allowing her to fall asleep…. and it worked!
We all have tension that builds up during the day and our tension needs to be relaxed. That’s where meditation comes in, meditation allows all the tension of the day to flow away… thus allowing pain to subside or never happen in the first place.
