“Meditation Can Heal Our Schools”

“Meditation increases cognitive abilities, helps people relate to one another, increases compassion, melts away anxiety, increases cooperation, and so much more… thus meditation can heal our schools.”

Teachers all over the world are finding that teaching a simple form of meditation to their students can create positive, powerful, and dramatic changes in students. Thus calming their minds, allowing anxiety, anger, and other emotions to melt away… thus creating a great environment for learning.

Teachers who incorporate meditation in the classroom find kids are more cooperation and interest in learning. There are less outbursts and disruptions in the classrooms, and less fights and other problems at school… plus increased cognitive performance.

Taking 15 minutes at the beginning of every school day and 15 minutes in the afternoon for meditation creates dramatic changes for everyone in the school.

Here is a great NBC news clip about grade schools in San Francisco that had terrible class room disruptions and the students were not doing well academically. Then they decided to incorporate meditation and everything changed.

A 2003 study by the Medical College of Georgia showed meditation improved social behavior and reduces absenteeism in schools. Also there were less suspensions and rule infractions for schools that incorporated meditation as part of their daily practice.

The University of Connecticut did a study showing schools that incorporated meditation into their daily classroom work showed reduced amounts of emotional disturbances, anxiety, and hyperactivity in students. And the University of Santa Clara found meditation improved a students ability to deal with life’s various challenges.

Stanford University found those who meditate valued silence and quietude above everything else… thus quieting their minds.

Researchers at UCLA did a study with long term meditators and those who did not meditate. They found that meditators had increased brain tissue folds creating more surface area… resulting in more intelligence.

Here is a link to a study done at the University of Washington showing that meditation improves concentration. – See Link – http://www.washington.edu/news/2012/06/13/mindful-multitasking-meditation-first-can-calm-stress-aid-concentration/

Another study by the University of Iowa showed transcendental meditation improved intelligence… thus making it great for schools.

The University of California at Santa Barbara found that those who meditate have improved cognitive function, memory, and scored higher on GRE tests.

In general there’s no downside to incorporating 15 minutes of silence twice a day into schools, only improved performance, better grades, improved behavior, improved cooperation, calmer minds… and increased emotional peace.
