“Our Children and Their Health”

Here are two different meals: One meal was eaten by a diabetic who takes insulin every 2 or 3 hours and still does not have his blood sugar under control. The other was eaten by a healthy man that eats right, takes care of his lifestyle, and feels good and is very healthy. These are true photos of what people were eating.

There’s an old saying “We are what we eat” and that’s so true because if we eat only carbs and meat like the diabetic man’s meal… we eventually end up with lots of health challenges.

Denial is amazing because people lose their legs, their sight, their kidney function, and so much more when it comes to diabetes. In the end it’s their choice and no one should take away their choice. But it’s really difficult when people make such choices, because of the impact it not only has on their life, but also on the lives of their spouse, kids, parents, friends, and other loved ones.

In the movie “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead” the person in the movie asked people if they would give up fast food in order to live longer. Because people who habitually eat fast food usually die prematurely at around 55 years of age. And the most prevalent answer the host received was “No” that they would rather die than stop eating fast food.

We have an epidemic of obese people on our hands in the US and this is starting to spread around the world. This is not good, because along with this epidemic of obesity comes an epidemic of health issues that costs billions of dollars in healthcare. Unfortunately many times it takes people becoming very ill before they wake up. And even then some people are not interested in eating healthy.

The best thing we can do is train our children well… to teach them to eating healthy and thus create a lifetime of healthy eating habits. Most of what we do everyday are habits that we put in place to create small inconspicuous bits our life. Eating may seem easy and natural, but once we have 50 years of unhealthy eating habits in place it’s very difficult to break those habits.

It’s much easier to take children who are a clean slate and teach them to love eating fruits, vegetables, exercise, and cooking. There are even healthy living cooking classes online that anyone can enjoy and especially kids. What children learn in the first 10 years of their life will stay with them for the rest of their life. So it’s important that we teach our children well, and teach them to love eating healthy. Thus we’ve laid the foundation for a beautiful and healthy adult.

There are healthy cooking classes for kids at recreation centers, at some schools, at colleges and other places. And having kids help in the kitchen is very important because they learn from doing and actually creating an interest in food and cooking. And taking kids to farms to teach them about growing organic food, eating raw organic food, and how to prepare foods is also very important. And lots of organic farms have tours and are very interested in promoting health and wellness. Because it not only helps the children, but brings awareness to organic farming and thus helps the world become a better place. Children also learn where food comes from and sustainability of our soils… thus the future of our planet will be in good hands for generations to come.

The time is now, we have to make a change because it’s not going to happen by itself. We have a dichotomy going on in US and the world with many unhealthy people dying from obesity which can be cured… all we have to do is teach our children well and thus heal the world in general.

Let’s look to the future, thus our children will never have diabetes, cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer. Help our children to create healthy habits now… because the health and well being of our country and our children are at stake… it’s time for action.

If everyone would pledge to teach their children to eat healthy, to exercise, and to love cooking… the world would be a better place to live.
