Studies show that we need love, and love helps us to thrive and be at peace, and has wonderful health benefits. Here are just a few ways long term loving relationships create bodily health that keep us strong, vital, and living a much long life.
Fewer Visits to the Doctor – Studies show that people who have long term loving relationships have fewer health problems than those who live alone or have stressful relationships. Perhaps it’s because we have people to confide in, people who care about us, which easies our tensions and thus we don’t have as much stress. And stress leads to acidic changes in our bodily systems and eventually to disease.
Less Anxiety – Studies by the University of NY using MRI scans show that those who have stable long lasting relationships have less anxiety than those who have passion love affairs. Both have less stress, but the long term relationships have less anxiety in general over the long haul.
We Live Longer – Studies show in national surveys that people who live alone have a mortality rate which was 50% higher, than those in loving long term loving relationships. Also those in loving relationships had a much lower occurrence of cancer and pneumonia.
We Are Happier – A study in the Journal of Family Psychology showed that people who have loving relationships are much happier than those who just have lots of money. So money is not the answer to happiness.
Less Pain – A study in the Journal of Psychological Science showed that if a woman was subjected to electrical shocks while holding their husbands hand had 50% less stress… and the happier the relationship the less stress they had. Also another study done by the Center for Disease Control showed that those who had loving relationships were less likely to complain of headaches and back pain.
Lower Blood Pressure – A study in the Annals of Behavioral Medicine shows that those who have loving happy relationships have lower blood pressure… than those who are single or have stressful relationships.
Less Drug Abuse – Studies show that those in loving relationships have a much lower possibility abusing alcohol or drugs.
We Cope with Stress Better – It’s been shown that those in loving relationships cope better with health and financial challenges. Sometimes we need someone to be there for us, checks on us, and make sure we are OK, thus we are able to cope with stress.
We Heal Much Faster – A study by researchers at Ohio State University Medical Center showed that skin blisters healed faster if the participants had loving spouses.
We Have Less Depression – Studies show that people who are in loving relationships are much less likely to have depression. When we are in loving relationships we don’t have to deal with life’s ups and downs alone… we have a support system.
Less Heart Disease – A study by the University of Pittsburgh found that women who where in loving relationships had a much lower incidence of heart disease.
A Need for Love – A University of Toranto study showed that people want more than just sex. They want a loving relationship that will help them through the hard times… and the good times.
Better Immune System – Studies show that those in a loving relationship have a more robust immune system. And even if they quarrel their immune system stays strong.
Better Outlook on Life – A study from Rutgers University shows that people who looked at photographs of loving couples had higher amounts of dopamine in their brain, and dopamine is connected to feelings of optimism and well being.
Nice Skin – People in loving relationships have less stress chemicals in their system which can lead acne… thus they have better looking skin.
Better Social Life – Couples in loving relationships learn to work together, respect one another, learn how to talk things out, and are considerate of one another. And those emotional traits translate into a better social life and more friends.
Better Spiritual Life – Studies show that those in loving long term relationships have more gratitude for life, are more mindful, and have more neuroplasticity. Thus they are better able to cope with life, and they give all their overwhelming challenges to their greater power… which leads to a much happier life in general.
All of this goes to show, that long term loving relationships make us healthy, and we are happy.
