We have so much to do these days and so little time, with so many demands being placed upon us it’s hard to be happy. But we can be happy all the time no matter what’s going on. Here are a few things that we can do to make life joyful, spiritual, and full of happiness.
Set the Clock for Sleep – It’s important that we have a set routine to live by. Routines create the Rock of Gibraltar that we cling too when times are hard… and routine sets the mood for the day. Getting up and going to bed at the same time everyday is important. That way we know we have all the sleep we need for the day… and without enough sleep we are not happy. In Ayurvedic Medicine in India which goes back thousands of years they recommend going to bed at 10 PM and getting up at 6 AM… but that will have to be adjusted slightly for every person.
Create Time for Exercise – We have a temple called the body. It’s not a permanent temple, but while we do have this temple we have to take care of our body with exercise. Exercise makes us happy and helps reduce the anxiety of the day and prepares us for another great day. Simple things like walking, swimming, and riding a bike can make all the difference in the world. Instead of driving to work try walking to work or riding a bike… it’s uplifting and joyful.
Listen to Music – Music fills our heart with joy, and music is one of the best ways to start the day. Powerful upbeat music can get rid of the blues and put a smile on our face. Music is even talked about by all the avatars as uplifting and important for a happy life.
Make it a Point to Eat Right – Every spiritual text talks about the importance of food. Organic and natural food which is simple and tasty is what the avatars talked about. In general all the spiritual text talk about eating healthy, with lots of veggies, with very little meat or no meat at all. And all the text also talk about listening to the wisdom of our body… and that’s something we’ve forgotten how to do. When we eat something does it makes us feel light and more energetic within 15 minute or are we dragging? Those foods which are important for us are the energetic ones, the foods that made us feel good… it’s very simple. And good health and good diet is directly connected to feeling happy.
Quiet Time Everyday – All the spiritual text talk about mediation and being in silence in nature. Silence is a daily activity that’s extremely important especially now with all the noise pollution. And meditation creates joy, and thickens the frontal lobes of our brain which is proof positive that meditation is actually doing something we can measure. Being a person who been meditating for over 30 years now I can attest to the fact that meditation creates joy and happiness. There are lots of meditation teachers who are willing to teach meditation, and their are great books about meditation in public libraries, and lots of information that can be found on-line about meditation. Or take a meditation retreat, that’s one of the best ways to learn meditation.
Turn Off the News and Tune into Happiness – We have so much information going on, that we are going into information overload, our brains can’t handle all the info that we are subjected too. I personally know people who are very spiritual who don’t watch the news or read the on-line news at all, and are very informed and do a huge amount of good for their community. If something important is happening that you should know about, someone will let you, it always works that way. But to be subjected to all the anxiety of the daily news all day long, does nothing but create havoc with our mind and body… and eventually we become very sad. It’s important that we make small changes, and one of those changes is shut off the news, instead listen to music and enjoy life and be happy.
Electronic Overload – New studies show that most people are much happier if they shut off their electronic devices and don’t connect to Facebook. How did we live without all of these electronic devices and Facebook many years ago… well we were happier, more well adjusted, and emotionally centered. Shut things off and get away from all of those electronic devices for 3 or 4 hours everyday is important because happiness will fill the void.
Prayer – Studies show that those who pray are happier than those who don’t. Sometimes we have challenges that we don’t have the answer too, or control over, thus giving it all up to a Higher Power sets us free. Thus we allow everything to take place according to the divine plan, it’s a spiritual process of surrender… which leads to happiness.
Journaling – Writing out our feelings every day is important and it’s a spiritual journey. Studies show that if we journal all of our feelings out just before taking a test, we do better on the test by about one grade… or from a B to an A. And those who journal at night just before going to bed, putting down all of their feelings and emotions sleep better. We are spewing out all those feelings to the universe, thus allowing tension to subside. Thus life gets better… because we finally relax and feel joy.
With these spiritual ways of living we can change life in a great way, we feel happy, and all of us deserve to feel happy.
