There are many ways to heal kidney disease and some of them have to do with working from the mind to the body, and others work from the body to the mind. Yet all of them can be very powerful in the creation of healthy kidney tissue. Here are some wonderful yoga positions and breath work that can heal kidney disease. And this way of healing kidney disease is very natural and doesn’t need medications, herbs, or supplements just the healing power of yoga.
It’s best to look up images of each yoga poses on the internet to have a true visual image of what each pose looks like. There is nothing like seeing something to really cement what the pose is all about in our mind. Also finding a good yoga instructor in your area is important, because having one-on-one supervision can help in amazing ways. Or signup for a yoga class near you, and tell the instructor about your kidney disease, and that you need lots of yoga poses that strengthen kidney energy.
Half Spinal Twist
This yoga pose starts out with sitting flat on the floor and then crossing one leg over the other and having that knee up. Then twist the body in the direction of the raised knee. This pose stimulates the kidneys and the liver and also gives a boost to the immune system. Hold the pose for 30 seconds and the work up to 1 or more minutes.
Seated Forward Bend
This pose is great for stimulating the kidneys and improving digestion. While sitting flat on the floor bend forward and grab your feet. This may take time, because some of us are less limber than others. This pose can be held for 30 seconds and then work up to 5 minutes before proceeding to the next pose.
The bridge pose starts by laying down flat on the floor and then arching your back up from the floor while having your feet and shoulders still on the floor. Then grab hold of your ankles and hold the pose for 30 seconds and work up to 1 to 5 minutes. This pose is very relaxing and helps with stress, stimulates the kidneys, and lowers blood pressure.
For the boat pose lay flat on your back and then bring your feet up and your upper body as though you were going to touch your feet with straight legs. This is not easy and will take time to master. Start out with 10 seconds and work your way up to 1 minute holding this pose. The boat pose is great for stress, improves digestion, and also stimulates the kidneys.
Start out by laying flat on your stomach and then arching up your head and chest and leaving the lower part of your body touching the floor. Bring your elbows up to support your upper body weight, and hold the pose for 30 seconds and then work up to 5 minutes. This pose strengthens the kidneys and boost the immune system.
Arm Balance Pose
For the arm balance pose squat down on the floor and place your hands flat on the floor. Then bring your legs up and support all your weight on your hands. This pose will take time to develop, but it’s great for strengthening the kidneys and improving digestion. Start out holding the pose for 10 to 30 seconds and then work up to 1 minute.
Alternating Nostril Pranayama Breath Work
This breath work routine is one of the best ways to improve kidney function. It can actually lower creatinine levels and rid the body of toxins. First sit in upright chair or cross legged on the floor, next close your right nostril with your right thumb and breathe through the left nostril somewhat fast. Then switch and breathe through the other nostril using the left thumb to close the left nostril. Do this for 15 to 30 minutes alternating back and forth.
I have a little twist that I add to this yoga routine which comes from QiGong. Visualize white light coming up from the ground as you breathe in. And as you breathe out see the white light going into your kidneys and bringing healing energy into your kidneys. With each breath see that powerful light of healing energy entering your kidneys and bringing healing to every aspect of your kidneys.
It’s important for a novice yoga person to start slowly. Start out with one pose and work your way up adding additional poses as you go. But it’s also important to do all the poses you master daily, and also the breath work which is very powerful for healing kidney disease. This healing process will take time, but yoga has been around for thousands of years. And yoga has become very popular all over the world because it can heal all kinds of stress, diseases, and make the body more flexible, more powerful, vital, and full of energy.
On a personal note I practice yoga daily… it’s very important.
