“Health Benefits of Langsat Fruit or Lansium parasiticum”

Langsat fruit is a common fruit in South East Asia and has many health benefits including whitening and strengthening teeth, lowering blood pressure and calming the GI tract.

Where it Grows – Langsat or Lansium parasiticum and sometimes called langzones fruit or buahluku and grows in South East Asia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Sumatra, and other countries… and is well known as a raw or cooked treat. And the tree is related to the mahogany tree, and the fruit grows to be 2 1/2 inches in diameter, and the tree will bear fruit for 12 years or more.

Taste – Langsat has a translucent meat that is very luscious with a sweet taste that’s similar to a combination of grapes and grapefruit… very interesting and tasty, the fruit grow like a bunch of grapes on the tree.

Heals Diarrhea – Langsat tree bark can be made into a nice tea for healing diarrhea. Just take a inch or two piece of the bark and boil it in cup of hot water for 10 minutes and then drink as needed.

Natural Teeth Whitening Agent – Eating the fruit whitens teeth.

Lowers Fevers – Eating langsat fruit can also help lower fevers caused by viral colds and flues.

Antioxidants – Langsat fruit contains lots of great antioxidants that boosts up our immune system and thus help to prevent disease. Studies show that langsat fruit contains as many antioxidants as papaya and bananas.

Cancer – Langsat fruit contains the chemical agents called limonoids which are very important for healing and preventing cancer.

Boosts Immune System – Langsat fruit also helps to boost up our immune system thus preventing and repairing DNA damage.

Betacarotene – Langsat fruit contains a good amount of betacarotene thus helping to promote healthy skin, bones, teeth, and mucus membranes.

Heals GI Tract Spams and Gas – Langsat fruit tree sap has long been used to treat GI tract spams, gas, and intestinal pain and inflammation. Just taking a 1/2 teaspoon of the sap and adding it to a cup of boiling water makes a great tea for soothing away GI distress.

Contains – Langsat fruit contains great carbs for energy, a little protein strong muscles and for creating enzymes, B-Vitamins for good mood and vitality, calcium and phosphorus for strong bones, iron for anemia, and Vitamin C for keeping away colds and flues.

Bites and Stings – Taking the bark and making it into a powder and then adding just a little bit of water thus making a paste… is excellent for externally treating insect bites and stings.

Treating Ulcers – The seeds of the fruit can be ground and then mixed with a little water for drinking to treat gastric ulcers. It’s kind of bitter so add some honey or some other sweetener.

Great Fiber – Langsat fruit contains lots of fiber making it great for growing more probiotic bacteria thus boosting up our immune system and for weight loss.

Lowers Blood Pressure – Langsat fruit also lowers blood pressure, and high blood pressure is the worlds leading cause of kidney disease.

Lowers Cholesterol – Langsat fruit also lowers cholesterol levels thus helping to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and even cancer. Langsat fruit lowers bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol and increases good cholesterol or HDL cholesterol.

Sore Eyes – Taking leaves of the tree and making a tea and then using it as a eye wash works well for treating sore eyes.

Insect Repellant – Drying the skins of the fruit and then burning them drives away mosquitoes and other biting insects. And the dried skins are very fragrant and thus can be used as a wonderful incense.

Wood Uses – The wood of the tree is very hard and can be used for making furniture and construction.

Used in Cosmetics – The fruit has also been used in cosmetics as a moisturizer and for bleaching and whitening skin.

Cooking – Langsat fruit can also be used for cooking, making it a great addition to fish and chicken and other dishes, and the fruit can be canned for later use.

Finding – Langsat fruit like mangosteen and durian fruit can now be found in all Chinese Markets and Asian Markets around the world.
