Sea Grapes or Caulerpa lentillifera are a very nutritious edible seaweed that is highly prized in the Orient… and looks like and has a similar texture to caviar. This seaweed is full of nutrients and antioxidants, helps with diabetes, cancer, creates wonderful skin and hair, and prevents heart attacks, strokes, and more.

Where They are Found – Sea Grapes are found throughout the Pacific Rim and are used in culinary uses in Okinawa, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and other countries.

Other Names – Some other names of Sea Grapes are Caulerpa lentillifera, Umibodo, Green Caviar, latô, arosep, gusô, latok, and many other names.

Taste – A bit salty, robust, and they taste like the sea where they come from… and slightly fishy like caviar. They taste a bit like many other seaweeds and when you bit into them they burst open and are yummy. They are great with miso or chili, limes, lemons, and other flavors.

Lots of Vitamins – Sea Grapes contain lots of Vitamins A, B, C,  Beta Carotene, and even Vitamin K which are all powerful antioxidants and help with many different areas of the body.

Good Source of Omega 3 Oils – Sea Grapes are a good source of Omega 3 oils and also DHA, ALA, and EPA which help with inflammation and osteoporosis.

Prevents Goiter – Right now we have an epidemic of goiter going on in the world because people are not getting enough iodine in their diet. And the Sea Grape is a great source of bio-available iodine. And that is why all seaweeds should be consumed weekly. Eating 150 mg of Sea Grapes provides 2 mg of iodine.

No Side Effects – There are no side effects to eating this food. But as with all things it should be eaten in moderation.

Confusion Over Name – Remember there is a sea grape that grows on land… don’t be confused… this is a seaweed that grows in the ocean.
