Oregano a must for any herbal medicine cabinet.

Antibacterial and Anti-fungal – Oregano has a compound in it called “Carvacol” which is a great antibacterial agent making it important for preventing disease and especially strains of bacteria that are associated with food poisoning. New research shows that some of the new super bugs can be killed by the compounds found in Oregano… and even with Oregano Oil diluted up to 1,000 times Oregano still kills bacteria… and it’s also a good anti-fungal compound. And Oregano is helpful for staving off colds, flues, and other common conditions.

Skin Conditions – Oregano Oil is great for itches, bites, fungal infections, rashes, and gum irritations, and even other skin problems,

Antioxidant – Oregano is a powerful antioxidant that helps to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer. Oregano binds with free radicals thus helping to slow the ageing process and preventing disease.

Parasite – Oregano Oil has been shown to be much more effective than the most common chemical drug used for treating giardia infections. Giardia is water born parasite which is very common especially when camping, backpacking, and drinking from unsafe water supplies.

Contains – Oregano contains a lots of different chemical compounds including: pinene, ocimene, limonene, thymol, carvacrol, and caryophyllene. All of which are powerful antioxidants, anti-inflammatory agents or antibacterial agents.

Also contains calcium for strong bones, potassium for water regulation, iron for anemia, fiber for colon health and creating a good environment for probiotic bacteria to growth.

Also Omega 3 oils for cardiovascular health, tryptophan for a good nights rest, Beta Carotene a powerful antioxidant, Vitamin E for cardiovascular health and sexual health, B Vitamins for health and vitality, Vitamins A and C which are powerful antioxidants, manganeses for preventing osteoporosis, magnesium for cardiovascular health.

Vitamin K – Oregano is full of Vitamin K and thus helps to prevent clotting and thus reduces the possibilities of heart attacks.

GI Health – Oregano is great for soothing the GI tract, calming down spasms, improves GI motility, improves bile production, and soothes away stomach aches.

Eye Health – Oregano contains lots of great zea-xanthin, lutein, and other great nutrients that help to prevent macular degeneration and promote eye health.

Anti-Inflammatory – Oregano is a powerful anti-inflammatory that works well for arthritis, joint pain, and swelling, and also for inflammation of the whole body… which can be the start of disease, such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. And studies show that Oregano has the ability to help with arteriosclerosis and osteoporosis. And Oregano has more antioxidant punch than blueberries (4 times more) and over 40 times more than that found in apples, and over 10 times more than that found in oranges.

Cancer – Studies show that Oregano makes cancer cells kill themselves, and thus helps to stop certain types of cancer. And it prevents the spread of cancer and slows the growth of cancer.

Side Effects – The only true side effect is GI tract upset, if you take too much oregano… but other than that Oregano is very safe. But once in a while someone has an allergic reaction to Oregano, and then you should not use Oregano at all.

Cooking – Oregano is one of the best herbs to grow and cook with… and thus adding healing abilities to food. And Oregano is very easy to grow… we have a variety here on the island that grows like a weed and tastes great. But the more you cook any herb, the more nutrients are lost… so try to eat as much raw Oregano as possible. Oregano can also be used in soups, stews, casseroles, salads, and just about anything you can think of, and of course lots of Italian dishes.

Let me know how you are doing in 30 days – if you follow my diet exactly

Healthy Gut from Eating Plants Prevents Chronic Diseases

A diet high in fiber from plant-based foods can enhance the activity and composition of the gut microbiota. According to a recent article published in Practical Diabetology, a diet high in whole grains, legumes, fruits, and vegetables can reduce inflammation and prevent obesity and diabetes by enhancing the growth of healthy bacteria. A diet high in fat and animal products can lead to overgrowth of bacteria that cause inflammation and increase the risk of diabetes and certain types of cancer. Other healthy lifestyles choices such as exercising, getting enough sleep, and managing stress can also help. However, most experts agree that nutrition plays the most prominent role in improving gut health.
